Dennis Farina left his job as a Chicago cop twenty years ago to become an actor, and has yet another hit on his hands with a co-starring role in What Happens In Vegas with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher, but now it all seems to be coming full circle for him as he's been charged with a felony.
Starting out as a police consultant for movies, Farina them moved on to a few bit roles as well, and eventually was hired full time for the starring role of Lt. Mike Torello in the TV series, Crime Story, forcing him to leave his real life police officer job behind. He continued on in TV and film, with roles in Miami Vice, Get Shorty, Saving Private Ryan, and Law and Order.
Now with his first major success since leaving Law and Order, playing Cameron Diaz' boss in What Happens In Vegas, it seems it won't be all good news for Farina. At the Los Angeles Airport, Farina's carry-on bag was found to have a loaded 22-caliber handgun. He was booked with a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon, and bail was set at $25,000 until the information was disclosed that the handgun was unregistered. This raised bail to $35,000, which he paid and was released.
Farina claimed he forgot the weapon was in his bag, but honestly, how do you forget you're walking around carrying a loaded weapon, especially when you're a former cop? Maybe he was thinking airport security would overlook this, being he is a well-known actor and ex cop. Do you think if a guy he busted back in Chicago used that excuse twenty years ago he would have bought it?
Yeah, I don't think so, and I'm guessing the cops in L.A. aren't buying it either. He knows what the law and order is, yet I'm guessing as not just an actor, but an ex-Chicago cop, someone will find a way to make this crime story disappear.
