Untitled Woody Allen Project: an untitled project by Woody Allen

WoodyWoody Allen seems to be keeping his new film tightly under wraps as little information, even regarding such banal things as a synopsis, has been released. The name of the film itself is being referred to as “Untitled Woody Allen Project;” whether this is the actual title of the film or just some ambivalent and mysterious dubbing is hard to say.

Recently though a little information has leaked out about the characters and the roles they will be playing. Supposedly Larry David (his acting name has not been divulged yet), creator and star of Curb Your Enthusiasm will play the husband of Melodie (Evan Rachel wood - Thirteen) who ends up having an affair with Randy (Henry Cavill – Hellraiser: Hellworld). It will be no surprise to Allen fans that such a romantic dynamic be used for he has gained great success in films such as Play it Again Sam, A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy, and Husbands and Wives to name a few, by using such means.

It will also be exciting to see how Larry David and Woody Allen’s director-actor relationship will transfer onto the screen. David being a comedic director himself (Seinfeld) and being a legend in the field will, I am sure, be a great conduit for Allen’s own comic flare. This is not the first time that David has appeared in an Allen film either. He has had minor roles in Allen’s Radio Days; a throwback to the golden age of radio and its influence on society and in Allen’s segment for the New York Stories short film. It has been said many times that if it were not for Woody Allen and his approach to filming city life with its neurotic inhabitants all piercing one another’s lives, then shows like Seinfeld would not have been made.

For Evan Rachel Wood, working with Woody Allen must be like a dream come true given the profile boosts afforded to other Allen starlets such as Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow and more recently Scarlett Johansson after having worked with him.

As with any film that is as highly anticipated as this one is, there are bound to be some who are skeptical about whether or not Woody can pull another classic out of his hat. Like Ingmar Bergman (Woody’s most influential director) who continued writing right to a couple of years prior to his death at the age of 89, Woody has built a career of filmmaking based on the premise of tearing relationships apart and then sowing them back together again with bright red thread, that cannot be helped but be picked at and torn apart again.
