A Love Like That (6 Romantic Movies)

Yes, I know I'm a little late for Valentine's Day, but I was watching a movie the other night that got me thinking..."I want a love like that"!! Now you might find me odd to think that from watching the third installment of "The Pirates of the Caribbean" that I would have a thought like that, but if you followed all Pirates three movies, there was a romance there between two of the main characters. And in the final movie--"At World's End"--they finally get married, but while fighting the enemy. Her new husband winds up getting a sword in his heart and while he is dying stabs the captain's heart with a knife. With that being done he not only becomes the captain of the ship, but is now part of the ship's curse...which is one day ashore, 10 years at sea. Meaning the new captain won't be able to see his new bride but once every 10 years. And with that, that got me thinking...man I wish I had a love like that! To be able to wait for 10 years so that I could see my love for only one day, THAT is true love!

Now with that being said, it also made me think of some other movies that make me think, wish, dream, what ever wording you choose, for a love that seems you can only find in the movies. Here are just five (random) movies that not only make my noodle going, but my heart as well...

The Lake House-2006
Lake_house_2 This movie is pretty recent I know, but man did it surprise me at how good it was! It stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves and is about a man and a woman who fall in love through writing letters to each other. The only problem is that they are living 2 years apart. Kate (Bullock) leaves a note, with various information in it, in the mailbox for the new tenant. The time changes, there is now snow on the ground, and up pulls Alex (Reeves) in his old beat-up truck. He checks the mail and reads the note...it's the one from Kate. He tries to do as she asks in the note but runs into some problems. One being that the forwarding address she gave has not even been made yet. And this is where we find out that Alex is living 2 years behind Kate. As they keep writing to each other, a love is formed. But is it meant to be? You have to watch it to find out.

The Notebook-2004
Notebook This starts out with a man, Duke (James Garner), who visits a woman, Allie (Gena Rowlands), in what appears to be a retirement home and reads her a story. The story he reads to her is about a boy, Noah (Ryan Gosling), who is dirt poor but falls in love with a girl, Allie (Rachel McAdams), who comes from a wealthy family. After scaring her to death into agreeing to go on a date with him, they are soon to be inseparable...and fall in love. But because of her family, she has to move and so he goes to war. As years pass without them seeing each other, one day he decides to build their dream home. He goes to the city and sees her...and her future husband. He continues to build the home anyway and gets his picture taken with the newly built beautiful home in which she sees as she is trying on her wedding dress. She decides to heal old wounds and goes to see him. With that, the love that they both thought had once died was alive again and she decides to stay with him. As Duke is reading this to Allie, we find out that the story is in fact about them, and he reads that story to her every day because she has Alzheimer's disease and she asked that he read that to her so that she could remember. Just knowing that a man who loved this woman for over 50 years, and who will stand by her side and read her a story about their lives just for her to remember him for 5 minutes...MAN!!

Never Been Kissed-1999
Never_been_kissed This is a movie for all us geeks!! It stars Drew Barrymore as Josie Gellar, who works for the newspaper and gets to go undercover as a high school student. One problem, Josie was a complete nerd back in school and doesn't know how to get in with the popular kids. As her story unfolds, and through a few flashbacks, we find out that she's never had a boyfriend; was tricked into going to prom only to be teased and have eggs thrown at her; and she's never been kissed. While she's undercover, a romance blooms between her and her teacher Sam (Michael Vartan), but because she is a student nothing can happen between the two of them. Thanks to her brother coming back to school and becoming popular, he starts spreading rumors about her to make her popular as well. Soon they are the talk of the school and she gets asked to prom by one of the most popular guys in school. On prom night, she blows her and her brother's cover when the popular kids were about to pour dog food on a girl they considered a nerd and Josie put a stop to it. When she finally writes her article for the paper, she admits to falling in love...among other things, and asks if the man she loves could meet her on the baseball mound on the night of the big game and give her her first real kiss, but he never showed up...or does he?

A Walk In The Clouds-1995
Walk_in_the After coming home from the war, Paul (Keanu Reeves) returns to his wife and job of selling chocolates, which takes him around the country. As he is traveling by train, he tries to help a woman put her things in the upper compartment. She thanks him and then after the train hits a bump and they fall, she vomits on him. While cleaning his suit, he is asked for his ticket and finds out that he and the woman swapped tickets and now he has to get off at a different destination. Getting off the train, he gets on a bus and there the woman, who we find out is named Victoria (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón). After a long bus ride, some small talk, and a scuffle with some heathens, Paul is kicked off the bus and has to walk. While on his journey he sees Victoria sitting on top of her luggage, crying. They talk and we find out that she is afraid to go home because her father will "kill" her for being pregnant and not married. So Paul decides to pose as her husband and then leave after having an argument. Going home, he sees just how beautiful it is because her family is well known for not only their wine, but their vineyard as well. Of course "papa" doesn't approve because no one will ever be good enough for his daughter, and it's a major surprise that she brings home a husband. After dealing with her family, working in the vineyard, and falling in love, it is time for Paul to leave. When he gets home he finds that his wife was having an affair and that according to her "it would never have worked." So what does he do? Goes back to Victoria, his true love...but first he has to deal with her father and then saving their home.

Just Like HeavenJust_like -2005
Mark Ruffalo
and Reese Witherspoon star in this romantic comedy. Elizabeth (Witherspoon) is trying to become an attending physician at the hospital. At the end of a grueling 25+ hour shift, she's informed that she's earned the position and then she leaves to meet up with her sister (who has set her up on a blind date), but gets into a car accident. Here is David (Ruffalo), looking for an apartment. When he moves into one with the couch he wants, he gets a surprise visit from Elizabeth who demands that he get out because she lives there, and then vanishes. After a few encounters like that, David makes many attempts to get rid of her with no success. Realizing that they were both stuck, he agrees to help Elizabeth who only knows where she lives and that she is not dead. So going in search of who she is, they find out that she is a doctor and that she is in fact not dead, she is in a coma. While they are on this journey of her life, they fall in love...but they also find out that her sister is going to take her off of life support. So David goes to the hospital to save her, and while on the run with her body in tow, some how she is off support and is fading away. What does David do in hopes of saving her? He kisses her, which does in fact bring her back...but she has no memory of him. Is it fate? Gotta watch it!!

I hope that you enjoyed my romantic movie picks! I am aware that there are so many more that are out there, but there are a lot that I have not seen. If you have a few that are your favorites, share them with me because there's nothing I love more than a good movie...especially a romantic one !!
