During childhood, there will always be a little girl or boy who wants to be famous in some way when they grow up. Whether it be for the money or fame or because they actually have talent, they want it so bad that they eventually do become famous. But looking at how it is now, is it really all that great or worth it to become famous.
A prime example is Britney Spears. She was Queen of pop-tart, an idol of girls and boys, and a role model. She was the perkiest teeny-bopper around and she seemed to have it all. But look at how her life is now? Shaving her head, losing her kids, losing her mind. No one is perfect, by any means. But it makes you wonder if she still would have turned out the way she has if she hadn't become so famous.
Another example is Lindsay Lohan. She was the cutest thing in the 1998 Disney remake of "Parent Trap" and showed that she had talent by playing a twin of herself. Later she was in a few other Disney movies and then attempted to have a singing career. Now she has been through breast implant rumors, drinking and drug binges, and in and out of rehab. Would it have been different with her had she not become famous?
But then you have to stop and think...there are celebrities out there that are not in the limelight 24/7. This example comes from a power couple, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. The only thing you really hear about them is if they are doing a new movie or have been nominated, or have won an award, for a movie role. To hear anything about their personal life is just nonexistent. And they seem to be wonderful together, shoot, they've been together for 20 years! In Celebrityville that is a long time! Most can't even last a year, and if they do, it's a success!
The point here is: Is there a price to being famous? Should we tell all those little boys and girls to not even bother because it'll actually turn for the worse for them? Or do we let them so that they have that experience of being famous? I would think that it's very scary to be famous, having your life dictated by the public. "Oh, how dare you for wanting to party!"; "How dare you for not wearing any panties under that dress!"; "How dare you for wanting a love life!"; "How dare you for trying to live your life!" And yet, didn't the majority of the public do that as well when they were in their early 20's? So who are we to judge? Who are we to tell them how to live? Sure, it's a shame how most of the celebrities turn out, but isn't that mainly our fault as the public because we want to know what they do 24/7? We are the ones sending the paparazzi to photograph and antagonize them! Ya, it's great to know what's up in their life, but isn't it getting a little extreme for them?
So I will ask my question again: Is there a price for being famous?
